Will it ever stop raining???

Thanks to those who braved the elements on Friday evening. Catherine for preparing the delicious food for the barbecue, Tommo for cooking behind a tarpaulin sheet to keep the monsoon off the barbecue, the 2 Chelles for their impressive face painting, Neal and Bridget for their stirling service behind the bar as usual and those of you who turned up in your wellies to support the club! Surprisingly I had to cancel the bouncy castle, can't think why!!
In the vain hope that one day we may play another cricket match the youth section have purchased a water removal machine for the club which will remove water from the pitch making it possible to play cricket.
You never know that might stop it raining. We can but hope.
For those of you off on holiday have a good time and I hope you find some sun.
For those of you who are here the Club is open on Friday nights for training(weather permitting) any parents who'd like to help out when coaches are on holiday that would be much appreciated. The bar is open whatever so come along and have a drink.
First or Second Eleven matches take place every Saturday afternoon, Ladies matches and friendlies take place most Sundays. Check your fixture card for more details.

Michelle Hughes and Lewis Strong are aiming to run a cricket summer school weeks beginning 30th July and 6th August for more info click on Youth on the homepage of the website.
See you soon have a good summer.

Sunday June 17, Moseley Ashfield vs Moseley Rugby Club

This Sunday, 17 June, we have our annual fixture against Moseley Rugby Football Club. It is always a fiercely contested game on the field, and a great social occasion off it, with plenty of refreshments throughout the day.

Lunch will be served from 1.30pm to 2.00pm. Tea will be taken from 4.00pm, and a barbeque will be served following the end of the game at approximately 6.00pm. Have as much or as little as you like - all meals will cost £5 per meal.

The cricket timings, as usual, will be relatively flexible. However, we aim to start at about 12.30pm and finish by 6.00pm, hopefully concluding with the much-coveted trophy being handed to the captain of the Ashfield XI (!).

Greeetings from Canada!

The newsdesk recieved this e-mail from an old Ashfield member Robbie Sutherland, now living in Canada. Nice to hear from you Robbie.

"Hello there Ashfield, and I can see the club has really grown a lot since I left for Canada in 1957. Heartiest congratulations.I expect many of the players of my day, however, are no longer with us. I played 1st X1 - 1949-1956 when A Boyce, then Barry Hands were captains. Before he died, Barry kept me in touch, and I have been back to the club once or twice over the years. If Viv Watts, Michael Edwards, Michael Redding or Robin Shears and many others of that time are still around, it would be great to have a chat again (if anybody can be bothered), either by e-mail or phone if I could have their numbers.Have a great season, and best regards.B. Sutherland (Robbie)"

Any other ex Ashfield players living around the world, drop us a line and let us know where you've got to!
